Do cats [ sweat ] ? figure out if they do !

Especially in summer, the weather is so hot.Humans sweat rates can be up to 3 liters per hour for adults, but did you asked yourself ,how does my cat sweat ?

  • Cats also sweat
Sweat glands exists for cats too but not that much as a we have, the paws pad have alot of glands so we can see their footpirnts as they walk around, their skin is covered with fur so it minimize the amount of cooling the sweat provides.

Also saliva helps them to cool down by licking their fur ,using less efforts or spreading in a cool place in the shade.

  • Panting

When paw-sweat isn't enough, Cats do pant to keep cool, don't be afraid its just a hot day ,just provide some cool area for your cat, cool water to drink or you can wet him or her by some cool water in order to cool down.

.

  • The danger of Death

The brain is the organ that gives the orders to cool the body like drinking cool water, stretching in a cool area or sweating .if the body temperature continue to increase by doing too much activities the cat may have a Heat Stroke.(excessive drooling, brick-red or blue-purple gums)
Death is possible if the body is overwhelmed for a long time.

  • Heat Stroke
Heat Stroke risk increase if the cat is so young or so old ,sickness like cold ,dehydration, overweight.
Also never let your cat in a closed car ,in just minutes the temperature inside the car soar to a high level causing Heat Stroke, countless pets die from being left in closed cars.

  • What to do if the cat is overheated !?

The temperature should be within 102.6 °F ,above this, the cat has a fever ,some signs may manifest like: high frequency of breathing, loss of appetite for food, weakness.

If your cat is still panting for a long time, then you should contact your vet before its too late.
